According to the study, with the current urbanization rate, in the next 40 years, about 993 million city residents will have to live freely with less than 100 liters of water / person / day. when an average person uses about 400 liters of water / day.

Currently the world has about 150 million people are using less than 100 liters of water / person / day. The impacts of climate change also pushed more than 100 million people into the lack of clean water for essential activities, such as cooking and bathing.

The study adds that the water resource crisis not only threatens the minimum sanitary conditions of the world's fastest growing cities , but also harms the natural environment due to the overflow of water. spread from lakes and rivers .

Experts predict the most serious clean water shortage in South Asia, especially the six major Indian cities, including the capital New Delhi. From now until 2050, about 119 million people in the Ganges delta cities will lack running water. Asia and West Africa also face the risk of severe freshwater shortage in major cities.

Rob McDonald of the Nature Conservancy and head of the research, said that in response to the water crisis, there is a need for sustainable investment in infrastructure, solving problems. water use, especially in agriculture, the most clean water consumption sector, as well as the state of water loss.

Mr. McDonald called on international organizations to support poor countries to ensure that all citizens enjoy the most basic right to access clean water.
