China Daily quoted the report of the General Department of Surveying and Mapping China, saying that the 7.8-magnitude earthquake in Nepal reversed the progress toward the northeast of Everest .

Before the earthquake, Everest moved 40 cm to the northeast during the past decade, at a rate of 4 cm a year. The mountain is also 3 cm tall each year.
However, satellite images of the European Aeronautics Agency on April 29 showed that the mountain peak had dropped by about 2.4 cm after the earthquake .
The earthquake on April 25 in Nepal has killed more than 8,700 people, caused landslides and destroyed more than 1.5 million homes, leaving hundreds of thousands of people homeless.
