Move the roof with a button

Wanting to enjoy the peaceful space in the countryside, wanting to be "different" from the neighbors, Ross Russell built a special house with a movable roof.

At first glance, the house of Mr. Ross Russell, 48 years old in Suffolk, looks no different from other traditional houses in the East of England. But just press the button, it will start to change shape. In just 6 minutes, the exterior of the house made of steel and wood could slide forward to become a roof, or slide back to cover the annex and backyard and leave the pool open.

The 20-ton mobile wall and roof system needs to use four electric motors powered by power with conventional car batteries. All of this movable roof is 15.85 meters long, 6.1 meters wide and 7 meters high.

Russel said: ' Winter, we will pull the roof in to keep warm. But on summer afternoons, we can pull the roof out and sit in the light, it's a wonderful experience. '

Russell, a successful businessman, decided to build a country house to enjoy the peace but still wanted to make a difference with other houses. 'We use technology to make that difference,' Russell said.

Because Russell had never built a house, Russell asked his former classmate Alex de Rijke, who is currently an architect of DRMM, London. Rijke suggested moving house for Russell and Rijke himself enthusiastically participated in the design, directing the construction of the house for 12 months.

There are parts that can move to bring new concepts of housing.

In the design plan, Rijke thought of arranging the doors along the way to make sure there are escape holes in case of malfunctioning machines. Unique red wood paint not only makes the house look as luxurious as a hotel but also insulated in winter . Rijke said: " The sliding house brings a new concept of housing space. The house can change the structure, change the shielding, the ability to receive sunlight and insulation '.
