Mummies on the glacier at the summit of Mexico mountain

Two mummies under the ice on the mountain of Mexico, most likely the bodies of the missing climbers in an avalanche more than 50 years ago, have been found.

According to Independent, the body was discovered in a glacier on Mount Pico de Orizaba, the highest peak in Mexico. A group of climbers discovered two corpses when they saw the head and a hand protruding from the iceberg at an altitude of 5,270 m on Monday.

Two bodies were thought to be the bodies of two missing Mexican climbers in 1959 when a group of seven climbers suffered in an avalanche. 4 people survived and 3 missing people are thought to be dead. The investigation team hopes to find the remaining body when returning to the top of the mountain.

Luis Espinoza, now 78, one of the victims of the snowslide in 1959, dug the ice and snow himself to escape. After studying a picture of a mountain body, he believed that they were one of two missing friends.

The corpse seemed to be incomplete chilled, skin and muscle tissue as well as clothing exposed.

Glaciers can preserve the body for many years , sometimes for thousands of years, as was the case with the Tyrolean gangs, found in 1991 on the Austrian and Italian borders, 5,000 years after his death.

"Everything led to speculation that this was a member of the missing expedition in 1959. I suppose there could be another corpse, because the three people were missing," Juan Navarro, mayor of Chalchicomula de Sesma , the nearest town at the top of Pico de Orizaba said.

The government hopes to use government helicopters to bring the bodies down. It is possible that the government will give DNA testing to identify the body.
