Mysterious 7,000-year-old 'astronomical observatory' manifests itself in Spain

Spain's Stonehenge regretted archaeologists decades ago when it appeared and then disappeared, returning to the shores of the lake in this fierce summer.

According to Reuters, it is a huge megalithic structure, consisting of many megaliths mostly arranged in rings, which has long been dubbed the "Stonehenge of Spain". It was first discovered by German archaeologist Hugo Obermaier in 1926.

This area has been flooded since 1963 in a project to change the water flow to develop this countryside, regretting the archaeologists because the mystery of the structure has not been solved.

Stonehenge is a mysterious megalithic ring in England, about 4,000-5,000 years old, whose uses are still unclear but most evidence suggests it is an ancient observatory.

Whether the structure in Spain has the same use, is still a puzzle that scientists are racing to solve because it is possible that the "Stonehenge of Spain" will soon sink back into the water.

The "Stonehenge of Spain" isn't quite as perfect as the original Stonehenge, looks more complicated with more rings, some of the rocks appear to have been dislodged by time.

The Independent quoted archaeologist Enrique Cedillo from the Complutense University in Madrid, one of the experts studying the structure, as saying it was a surprise and a rare opportunity to get close to it.

The structure is officially called the Dolmen of Guadalperal, which is older than Stonehenge. Preliminary studies suggest it dates back to 5000 BC.

Dolmen is now located in a corner of the Valdecanas reservoir in Central Caceres, where authorities say the water level has dropped to 28% of capacity.

There are many similar structures found throughout Western Europe, most of them on a smaller scale, and it is still unclear who and for what purposes built them. Human remains were found near several places, further complicating the puzzle.
