Scientists excavating underneath the Roman square found a 3,000-year-old tomb, a few hundred years earlier than the appearance of Rome.

The tomb is shaped like a deep well, including many rare vases. Archaeologists believe that below the Roman square, a popular tourist attraction in Italy, may be an ancient graveyard.

" I believe the excavation will also reveal many tombs, " said archaeologist Eugenio La Rocca.

Inside the grave, people also found an urn. The tomb dates from around 1,000 BC. That meant the graveyard had been several hundred years before the Romans appeared.

According to legend, Rome was founded in 753 BC by twins Romulus and Remus, the son of Mars war god.
