The Gestapo force of the Nazis then captured Messing while entering Poland. Once again, his hypnosis helped him escape death. According to legend, when he was imprisoned in a labor camp, Messing focused on hypnosis to control a guard opening the door of the cell. He quickly fled to the Soviet Union in October 1939.

Hearing the reputation of Messing for a long time, then Soviet leader Joseph Stalin sent a letter asking Messing to come to the residence to show off his rare skills.
