NASA general director to Vietnam

Mr. Charles Bolden and the delegation of US Air and Space Agency (NASA) arrived this afternoon to the National Satellite Center (VNSC) to visit and share experiences in developing space science and technology.

After working with the President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology Chau Van Minh, NASA general director visited VNSC. These are activities that are part of NASA's two-day work program in Vietnam.

Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, director of VNSC introduced to NASA Bolden general director about Vietnam Space Center Project, the project plays a particularly important role in "Strategy for research and application of space technology to 2020 " . This center is tasked with mastering technology, self-manufacturing small satellites to observe the earth and the whole territory of Vietnam in all weather conditions by radar technology.

Mr. Bolden congratulated the newly established National Satellite Center for one year and achieved a number of certain achievements."I think in the future, VNSC will have a great development , " he said.

The NASA representative shared some experiences in US space technology cooperation and development. In particular, he stressed the creation of conditions for the generation of young scientists, especially students of universities to approach the science and technology of space.

Mr. Bolden said that in the United States, the university students always worked for NASA for 6 months, considering it as an internship, then students returned to school to continue their study.

"I do not know among Vietnamese scientists here who have returned to their old schools to find students who have the potential to really love astronomy science for training or to find opportunities for them to participate in research. have you saved it yet? " , NASA representative asked questions and emphasized that work will create opportunities for the younger generation to mature.

Mr. Bolden added that NASA also established a small museum-like center as a forum for the public to visit and learn. Here, NASA leaves objects attached to astronauts such as clothes, or spacecraft models, thereby helping the public come closer to space technology far away from them. He said that Vietnam should study this model of America.

Director General Bolden talked about the work to be done in the future of NASA that US President Barack Obama has proposed."Why learn Mars, whether life exists on the planet or in the universe, or whether life exists in the solar system, is what motivates us to work ," Bolden said. "This is also our challenge, so NASA is trying to find opportunities to cooperate with countries in this area."

Bolden wishes to further promote space technology cooperation between Vietnam and the US.

On the Vietnamese side, Tuan also hopes that, as one of the world's leading technology centers, NASA will share experiences in the process of building and operating the Space Center in Vietnam.

Bolden, 66, is the first African-American director of NASA. He used to hold technical and management positions at NASA. Mr. Bolden has flew into space four times.

As planned, tomorrow, NASA general director will have an exchange at the Hanoi School - Amsterdam. In the afternoon of the same day, the NASA delegation worked with the Prime Minister.
