NASA: New mission of the Deep Impact and Stardust probe

After completing the mission, NASA Agency's Deep Impact and Stardust space probes will be assigned new missions. With the re-use of two probes on this space, NASA confirmed saving 15% of the budget.

Deep Impact was known to fire a bullet at the Star Brush Tempel 1 on July 4, 2005, to understand the composition of the Comet core. Deep Impact's mother ship Flyby, the size of a car, will carry out two new missions called DIXI and EPOCh.

The mission DIXI is to fly around the stars. Boethin has never been studied at close range. This is a ' short period ' comet that regularly flies through the center of the solar system, on the other side of Jupiter. The flight is scheduled for December 5, 2008.

The mission EPOCh is observing many extrasolar planets to understand the properties of these planets. The observation mission will begin this year, on the way towards the Boethin Broom star.

The January 2006 Stardust probe dropped into a atmosphere a metal container containing dust particles collected from the tail of Wild Comet.

The ship was assigned to investigate stars Star Tempel 1 in the framework of mission Nex T to observe at a closer distance the changes in the comet core after passing close to the Sun and making a complete map of the Comet core this. The flight is scheduled for February 14, 2011. This is the first time a comet has been visited twice.
