Nearly 300 people died due to the heat in India

The Indian meteorological agency has reportedly alarmed in some states, when the number of people killed by the heat in the country increased to 289.

The Indian Meteorological Agency said heat conditions could last three days in many parts of the northern part of the country, including the capital New Delhi and southern states like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The temperature today in these areas ranges from 42 to 48 degrees C.

At least 100 people have been killed and water shortages have occurred in several districts in Andhra Pradesh state, Times of India quoted state leader Chandrababu Naidu as saying. Mr. Naidu urged people not to leave home or work during the hottest times, from 11:00 to 16:00.

In the neighboring state of Telangana, the heat caused 130 deaths in the last 10 days, a disaster management official said. A total of 35 heat-related deaths in the capital and suburbs, while 23 people died in Odisha state, eastern India, and one died in West Bengal, Doordashan television reported.

"We are urging people to take all necessary precautions and drink lots of water, " Naidu said.

Yesterday streets and markets were deserted in all cities, major towns in the state of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, when people were indoors to avoid heat.

Meteorological agencies say high temperatures are likely to last at least a week . They said the situation could improve when it rains because the monsoon is coming. Monsoon winds often blow on the southeast coast in the first week of June.
