At the international conference on the Prospect of Global Biotech Crops held in 2012 by the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences and ISAAA on March 8, Dr. Clive James, Founder and President of ISAAA evaluated , with an impressive increase, biotech crops become the fastest applied crop technology in modern history.

Dr. Clive James judged that Vietnam has the potential to apply biotech corn in Asia, with an area of ​​about 1 million hectares.

However, if Vietnam does not soon launch the application program for biotech crops, it may be ahead of African countries.

Dr. Clive James said that international cooperation creates the best opportunities for global poverty reduction and success in agriculture is the application of technology.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Tuat, Deputy Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, corn is a crop that is highly concerned by the Government of Vietnam and has the potential to develop biotechnology applications.

This development trend is inevitable and plays an important role in ensuring food security globally. Vietnam will capture scientific and technological achievements in the world to develop biotech crops.

The ISAAA report shows that the United States continues to be the leading farming area with 69.5 million hectares, with an average adoption rate of biotech crops / total planted area of ​​90% for all. types of crops.

Brazil is considered as a global growth engine when the fourth consecutive year of biotech crops increased more than any other country, reaching 36.6 million hectares, an increase of 21% compared to 2011.

Notably, in 2012, the area of ​​biotech crops in developing countries increased 3 times faster and 5 times wider than developed countries (8.7 million hectares compared to 1.6 million). ha).

Of the 28 biotech crop cultivation countries, there are 20 developing countries and 8 industrial countries. The two countries Sudan and Cuba are the first two countries to introduce biotech crops for the first time in 2012.

In the 2013-2015 period, there will be some new biotech crops; including 2 approved products. It was the first multi-characteristic HT / IR soybean in Brazil and drought-resistant corn in the US in 2013.

According to Dr. Clive James, 2015 was identified as a major milestone for the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals, reducing the number of hungry people in the world by 50%.

Vietnam is a country that soon achieved this goal, similar to some areas in the Northeast of Brazil. If biotechnology is applied in crops, greater results will be achieved.
