The 7.8-magnitude earthquake on April 25 killed the lives of nearly 9,000 people and injured thousands of others. An 7.3-magnitude earthquake then occurred on May 12 and about 265 aftershocks continued to appear in one month after the earthquake.

More than half a million buildings were destroyed during the April 25 earthquake, aid agencies said they have not yet reached some people affected by natural disasters in very remote areas.

For Nepalese families who lost their homes, aftershocks have shattered their hopes of stabilizing their lives soon. The annual monsoon rains are about to begin in a month. Families who live on precarious hillsides fear that landslides from rain and earthquakes will cause more damage.

The Nepalese government estimates it will cost US $ 10 billion , or one-third of GDP, to rebuild civil works that were destroyed and resettled . Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala is likely to visit India in the near future to discuss restoration and reconstruction plans.
