New calculations predict the risk of you dying early

Scientists point out that people with waist-to-hip ratio of 0.9 or more are 22% more likely to die in the next 10 years than normal.

Previously, the body mass index (BMI) is often used to determine whether you are a reasonable weight or are overweight, obese. Now, scientists believe that BMI is not enough to prove a person's health status and also give a new calculation to identify the risk of premature death.

Specifically, published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, a team of experts from Loughborough University (England) and University of Sydney (Australia) discovered with the same normal BMI, men with waist - hip ratio 0.9 or more are 22% more likely to die in the next 10 years than those with lower waist-hip ratio. Not to mention, their risk of death from cardiovascular disease also increased by 25%.

Explaining the phenomenon, the authors said waist-to-hip ratio warns belly fat status . The larger the ratio, the more fat the viscera surrounds, leading to stimulation to release some types of hormones that contribute to diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and even cancer.

To promptly adjust, experts recommend that you measure and monitor your waist-hip ratio. The procedure is simple: You take a tape measure, wrap it around the area between the hip bone and the lower rib to measure the waist and then wrap around the widest part of the butt to measure the hip. Finally, take your waist and divide your waist.
