New device for blood flow measurement for burn patients

Recently a Swiss company has developed a camera capable of measuring the blood flow in the skin of burn patients.

The device, called 'Doppler Laser Imaging', was developed by Aimago, a start-up company based at the Ecole Polytechnique de Lausanne, Switzerland, which is designed to help assess the severity and severity of burns. .

Clinical data from the trial were presented Sept. 14 at the European Burns Association conference in The Hague.

The 'Doppler Laser Image' is connected to a flexible robot arm that can move around the burned areas. The other side of the device is a video display showing the difference in blood circulation intensity.

"Red means high blood flow, green is low blood flow , " says Michael Friedrich Aimago, a researcher. 'Experts may use this information to check if the burned tissue is being supplied with blood. If the tissue is not supplied with blood, it will not be able to recover and eventually die, so a skin graft should be performed. " However, if the tissues are still supplied with blood, the skin will heal naturally without leave the scars.

Although the primary purpose of the device is to use for burn patients, the manufacturer says it can also be used in reconstructive surgery to determine the viability of the skin tissue. transplanted.
