New discovery about Qin Shihuang's grave

Chinese archaeologists have just restarted the excavation of terracotta warriors after a 24-year hiatus. This is the third area to be dug up since the tomb of Tan Thuy Hoang was found in 1974.

Experts hope to discover more elaborately carved warriors to supplement the 'collection' of 1,000 soldiers found. In particular, archaeologists wished to find more high-ranking officers because most of the statues were discovered as archers, chariots and infantrymen, helping to protect the Qin king so the other side.

Archaeologists carefully separate each layer of dust on the statue.

The new excavation area will focus on an area of about 660 square meters around the main grave. The special maintenance process will be applied to protect the small details of each statue in front of the 'attack' of the air.

Cao Wei, director of the museum, said excavations were difficult but preserving those 'treasures' was much more challenging. An archaeologist revealed that the Museum has been cooperating with the cultural heritage department of a German university for many years to find an appropriate technology that helps preserve the colors of these terracotta statues.

Warriors gradually showed up under deep soil.

In total, there are about 8,000 warriors of real size in the three dug holes, including archers, infantrymen, riders, commanders and acrobats, plus 130 chariots, 520 horses and 150 cavalry. Each statue has a height of about 1.8 m and weighs about 181 kg.

A special feature is that these warriors are meticulously carved and do not have the same two statues. Many people believe that talented craftsmen have made them from real life models.
