New treatments help people with emphysema
Researchers are currently testing airway bypass treatment to make it easier for patients with emphysema to breathe.
Researchers at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School said that the study of Exhale Airway Stents for Emphysema will study a treatment that creates pathways for air Pulmonary stasis escapes , and thereby may help reduce shortness of breath and other symptoms of emphysema.
Dr John Kucharczuk, the principal researcher, a chest surgeon and an assistant professor of surgery, said: 'There are currently limited treatment options for these patients who have to work hard for every breath This new, advanced, non-surgical treatment will create

airways and can provide a new option for people who may have to wait many years for a lung transplant. '
New and small pathways in the lungs are created using a special needle. Then the stents will be placed to keep this new air path open.
This new procedure was developed at the University of Pennsylvania. This international and multi-center EASE study is inviting patients to register. Call 1-866-431-3273 to learn more about this study.
