One person produces two tons of CO2 each year from eating

Recent research by Spanish scientists has calculated the enormous carbon dioxide that each person emits in a year through their diet. This is considered to be the first study to confirm human excretion causes environmental pollution.

Each person emits about 2 tons of carbon dioxide per year, in the process from when food is produced until humans consume and excrete it, accounting for more than 20% of total annual emissions.

The scripture quoted Mr. Ivan Munoz, the study's lead author: ' The study evaluated the relationship between food production and consumption with global warming and acidification and eutrophication. (excess nutrients) of water environment. Calculation based on agricultural production activities, industrial food processing, sale and distribution, restaurant food processing, solid waste disposal and human excretion activities '.

According to the study, the production of animal foods, such as meat and milk products, has the greatest impact on the aquatic environment. The second major factor is human excretion.

' People contribute significantly to polluting water resources through the supply of organic substances and nutrients such as nitrogen and phosphorus. They promote algae growth, reduce water-soluble oxygen levels, cause odors and other problems related to eutrophication , 'Munoz said.

However, human excretions do not affect global warming because they are balanced by carbon fixation in photosynthesis.
