Open source is really safe
Alan Cox - one of the most respected experts in the UK open source community - has just warned about the security of open source project software.
Speaking at the LinuxWorld Conference on October 25, Cox emphasized the point that there is a relative amount of investment available for 'hack' open source systems.
Source: typepad ' We have invested a lot in security but the current security situation is still very bad. Meanwhile, the investment for unlocking security solutions is no less competitive. Now people are paid to 'hack' any software system on demand , 'Cox said.
' Information like' open source software is very safe, reliable and error-free '. Those are very dangerous statements. It's complacency , 'Cox announced.
' Meanwhile, the current analysis report only focuses on popular open source projects. Therefore, the results are very positive. If I analyze 150 open source projects on SourceForge I can guarantee the results are not exactly the same as those stated above. Only projects that are highly focused and censored are highly secure . '
Cox is a person who has spent many years researching and developing the kernel of the open source Linux operating system. Here he will participate in a new project to ensure the quality and security of open source - Software Quality Observatory for Open Source Software (SQO-OSS). Under the sponsorship of the European Commission, this project was officially launched on Monday.
