Osteomyelitis

Picture 1 of Osteomyelitis Osteomyelitis is an inflammation of the bone tissue that usually originates from an infection, which can affect people of all ages. If left untreated, the disease will harden or break the bones.

This is a risk after a double fracture, and should be carefully guarded whenever bone marrow is exposed in bone or joint surgery. It can also be caused by microorganisms brought by blood. The disease has 2 forms:

Acute osteomyelitis: common in children, including severe abdominal pain, swelling and redness in the inflamed area, usually in the body of a long bone, accompanied by systemic disease and high fever.

Chronic myelitis: may occur after the latent form and dull development.

Both forms are treated with high dose antibiotics. In some cases, surgery may be needed. If you slowly eliminate the infection, you may have short bones and deformations.

You can identify the disease through the following signs:

- Pain or pain.

- Easy to get angry.

- Swelling, redness or feeling of heat near the infected area.

- Difficulty walking or difficulty moving joints near the infected area.

- Limp.

- Hard back, very hard to bend.

Blood tests, X-rays, CT scans and ultrasound can help diagnose osteomyelitis. The treatment of the disease depends on the age of the patient, medical history and condition.

Long-term complications may include rickets in children, cracks or fractures and necrosis.
