Phan Thiet: collapsed dozens of houses by the sea invaded

Due to the effects of the Northeast monsoon in combination with the high tide, from December 2011, there has been a situation of sea encroaching strongly in the residential area of ​​Duc Long ward, Phan Thiet city (Binh Thuan).

As of January 1, there were 15 houses collapsed and badly damaged, more than 50 houses are being eroded and at risk of collapse at any time.

Mr. Dang Dinh Hieu, Vice Chairman of Phan Thiet City People's Committee said: There were projects and 46 households were arranged in Phuong Duc Long area. But there are still 50 other newly arising households that have not been resettled due to lack of land.

Currently, the remaining households along the coast are being disturbed very worried, people still have to close the Melaleuca poles by themselves, filling sand bags as embankments to protect their shelter.

According to Mr. Nguyen Ba Hue, Head of Quarter 5, dozens of remaining households are struggling with the waves to find ways to hold back their accommodation. Those who have money spend a few tens of millions of dong to dump stone to protect the earth; Any house that doesn't have it.

Binh Thuan provincial government has mobilized people to use thousands of sand bags and piles to reinforce sea dykes to protect lives and property for people. However, after only one night, the waves rolled all over the sea.

There is no one who dares to sleep at his house at the beach block at night because the house can collapse at any time. December is the strongest wave of the year and lasts until March next year. The most intense time is from 18:00 to 2:00 am.

According to Binh Thuan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, the situation of invasion in the area has become more serious. Partly due to high sea level rise and ocean waves hitting the shore directly, causing very rapid erosion.

Not only Phan Thiet, but in Tuy Phong district, Lagi town, Phu Quy island district happened invasion. In the night of 11 and dawn on 12/12/2011, the sea invaded for housing of many households in Tuy Phong district was damaged by waves and sea, killed 2 fishermen, 5 houses collapsed completely and dozens of houses were badly damaged.
