Philippines copes with new super typhoon

Military and rescue forces on the Philippine island of Luzon yesterday were ordered to prepare to deal with a approaching super typhoon.

Typhoon Parma came less than a week after the typhoon Ketsana (Vietnam No. 9 storm) raged in the Philippines, killing 227 people in the Manila area and surrounding areas.

The storm has a wind speed of up to 175 km / h, currently more than 500 km east of the Philippines, Reuters news agency quoted the head of national weather forecast agency Nathaniel Cruz.

If the storm does not change direction, it will head straight to the Philippines' largest island tomorrow morning.

"The storm is gaining strength and will increase the level ," Cruz said. He added that this could be the most violent storm hit the Philippines since 2006, when Typhoon Durian caused a terrible disaster for the central region.

" By Saturday afternoon, the wind speed could reach 200 km / h ".

The army and rescue agencies have been ordered to evacuate people in areas near the coast or places with landslides and flash floods. The storage of food, water, medicine and fuel is being carried out urgently.

Meanwhile, during the past 5 days, rescue workers have been working hard to overcome the consequences of typhoon Ketsana. Ketsana carries a record high rainfall that has submerged 80% of the metropolitan area and surrounding areas.

Typhoon Ketsana swept across the Philippines, Vietnam and Cambodia, killing a total of about 400 people, causing flooding and landslides in many places.
