Pig glows to give birth
A glowing pig after being bred with a normal male pig has given birth to 11 piglets, including two piglets carrying the mother's gene, which means it can also glow.
Professor Liu Zhonghua of Northeastern Agricultural University in Heilongjiang Province, China, said: " When the ultraviolet light is applied to the body, the mouth, legs and tongue of these two piglets glow. This proves. technology of genetically modified pig breeding by mature cell transformation ".
" This technology can also create a special breed of pig that provides parts for human transplantation, " Liu said.
The mother's pig is one of three fluorescent pigs created by scientists in December 2006 after injecting a glowing protein into pig embryos. To create glowing pigs, Chinese scientists have used somatic cell implant technology. Previously, American, Japanese and Korean scientists have also succeeded with this technology.
