If selected for the final list of 40, Lieu will begin training for 10 years before winning a one-way ticket to the red planet. Lieu also believed that she could become the first woman to give birth on Mars.

The major challenge for people living on the red planet is severe weather conditions, with temperatures of -62 degrees Celsius, the level of danger of radiation and the risk of starvation, dehydration or suffocation. Mars One is a non-profit project of Bas Lansdrop, a Dutch businessman. The project is aimed at bringing people to settle on Mars in 2024.
