'Pillar' appearing in the sky causes stir, professor speaks up to 'explain'

The post immediately attracted the attention of many netizens. Many people were extremely excited and thought it was the legendary giant "magic beanstalk" . Others thought it was Sun Wukong's Ruyi Jingu stick.

Some people think that this could be the shadow of something very large on the ground.

A professor from Chulalongkorn University said the phenomenon could be a streak of light formed when the plane flies through clouds. He confirmed that such a phenomenon can often be seen with the naked eye.

"I hope this photo is not photoshopped or a camera error," the professor added .

In May of this year, light pillars suddenly appeared in the sky over Tottori Prefecture, Japan. According to Accuweather , light pillars are an optical phenomenon that occurs when light is refracted by ice crystals.

Any light source can create a light pillar if the conditions are right, says AccuWeather meteorologist David Samuhel .

A similar phenomenon occurred in June 2023 near Wat Phra That Doi Suthep in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
