Pioneer introduces the first Blu-ray disc burner
A week after Panasonic introduced the Blu-ray Blu-ray Blu-ray optical drive (expected to go on sale from June 10), Pioneer also released the first Blu-ray burner named BDR. -101A.
This new product of Pionee looks no different from regular drives (but about half as long as regular drives - see picture). The BDR-101A optical sensor can read Blu-ray format (using green laser) and DVD (red laser).
The PC World Test Lab tests show that the BDR-101A works well with both one-time and multi-recorded Blu-ray discs (with the same capacity of 25GB). In addition, the drive is also capable of recording DVD formats (DVD-R / + R and DVD-RW / + RW) but cannot record CDs.
The product will sell for $ 1,000, not cheap (but not too expensive compared to Panasonic's LF-MB121JD Blu-ray price of $ 850). However, the tech enthusiasts seem not excited with BDR-101A. very much. Anyway, this is a sign that the 'next generation format' race has begun.
