Sony released 18x DVD burner
This speed is expressed with the DVD ± R device with AWG170A code on single-layer disc. DVD-RAM discs (recorded several times) also reached 12x with Sony products.
Sony admits this 18x recording capability is still not the fastest but much higher than other products. When recorded with this drive, dual-layer DVD ± R discs reach speeds of 8x, DVD-RW reaches 6x and CD-R / RW at 48x.
This is the first collaboration between Sony and NEC in the field of optical drives. Products have 4 different colors for customer options. The price on the UK Kelkoo site is 44 USD.
In June, Samsung also introduced WriteMaster SH-S182D at nearly the same speed.
