Windows XP is revived without Microsoft

Windows XP activation algorithm is completely cracked, allowing offline activation, no pirated copy required and no code from Microsoft required.

A post on tinyapps reveals that there is now a way for users to generate valid activation codes for Windows XP without an Internet connection.

This is good news for those who are forced to use or want to experience XP again, because the operating system has been discontinued by Microsoft and can no longer connect to the company's servers to activate in the usual way.

There have been pirated or ' cracked' versions of Windows XP since the early 2000s when the operating system was released, but these are not the same as cracking the activation algorithms, which allow for the generation of an unlimited number of activation ID codes just like buying the operating system directly from Microsoft and not having to modify the system.

In fact, the product activation algorithm was cracked a while ago. In 2019, a code generator was able to generate an unlimited number of Windows XP activation codes . However, the program still needed a validation code from the activation services to complete the operating system installation. This step became almost impossible when XP support services were discontinued.

Last year, an anonymous user shared a Windows executable file that can generate a validation code to complete the activation process completely offline. The key generator combined with the .exe file generates the validation code, allowing users to activate Windows XP without Microsoft and without the need for a crack.

Now, the aforementioned open source key generator has been forked and modified to work on Linux. Users still need the .exe file that generates the ID. The Register revealed that this mysterious file is also being analyzed to learn how it works.

Experts advise against using Windows XP unless absolutely necessary, as it is no longer secure, especially when connected to the Internet. However, there is still hardware that only works with Windows XP, including many expensive, specialized hardware that still works perfectly, just not with newer operating systems.

The new activation code retrieval tools will be useful for users who own these hardware, as Microsoft shut down its activation servers after the operating system was discontinued in April 2014.
