Fossil eyes with each eye 3cm in length and up to 16,000 lenses, are known as giant shellfish named anomalocaris , found in rock blocks on Kangaroo Island in Australia.

According to chief researcher John Paterson, of the University of New England, the adult anomalocaris, about 1 meter in length, was dubbed the "great white shark" in the Cambrian century due to its ability to hunt quickly through extremely sensitive eyes out of its body.

According to AFP , fly eyes now have about 3,000 lenses, while dragonfly eyes have about 30,000 lenses, and dragonflies are the only species currently known to have more lensed eyes than anomalocaris.

Previously, anomalocaris fossils were also found in Canada and China, but this is the first time the eyes of anomalocaris have been detected intact at Kangaroo Island.
