Prizes for beautiful wild photos
The swirling image of a falcon plunging into the starling flock gave Manuel Presti a prize for Wild Photographers of the Year, one of the most prestigious awards in photography.
This Italian photographer captured Sky Chase (or The Sky Hunt ) on a park in the city of Rome.
The photo won the prize for Animal Behavior, the scene of a falcon plunging into a flock of starling birds, in Rome.
" Sky Chase is a picture of strength, something you will never forget, " said Mark Carwardine, one of the judges.
The Wild Photographers Award of the Year is organized by BBC Wildlife Magazine and London Natural History Museum, bringing together 17,000 thousand contestants from over 55 countries around the world.
Manuel Presti is an engineer, but has held the camera in his spare time for the past 20 years. Through his work, he wanted to show the simple beauty of nature and hoped it would awaken people interested in conservation. Across Europe, starling populations have declined rapidly. However, thousands of children find homes in Rome's parks - where the weather is warmer than the surrounding countries and are often safer - except for falcons. The photo won the Animal Behavior Award.
