It was named VineRobot , which has a prototype but is still being developed within the framework of the European Union's VineRobot project. This project has four participating countries: France, Italy, Germany and Spain.
Gineag says VineRobot uses solar energy, moves itself on four wheels, and uses RGB-vision stereoscopic cameras, GPS to navigate their way.
While going up and down the rows of the vineyard, it will consider the moisture of the soil, calculate the composition of the grape and infer yielding at harvest. All these data will be transmitted to intermediate satellites and the destination is the computer of the vineyard owner.
"VineRobot needs to be improved to work faster, more accurately, and at lower cost," said Gizmag.
