Currently, the former bedridden woman six months has been discharged. In her home town of Orenburg, she will undergo rehabilitation and periodically go to Moscow for a planned health check. It is important that she can now live a normal life.
A rare complication of lung disease caused the affected heart to make it difficult for the female patient to breathe and even be bedridden. The only way to help this patient is transplantation.
However, before that, doctors in Russia had never implanted two organs at the same time. The surgery lasted four hours, of which an hour and a half of the patient's life was supported by artificial respiration and blood transfusions. Doctors cut out the patient's heart lung and replaced it with a donor's part.
The first heart and lung transplant surgery was performed by doctors in the 60s of the last century, but almost patients died shortly after. The first successful transplant took place in the United States in 1981.
Before this surgery, Russian doctors were also in trouble, but eventually, the transplant was successful. This is not only the success of the Russian Federal Transplant Center, but of the whole Russian medicine.
For Russian citizens, heart and lung transplants are done for free. Approximately US $ 30,000 for each cardiopulmonary transplant will be covered by the state.
