Russia prepares to simulate a flight to Mars

According to the Russian Institute of Biomedical Affairs, two Europeans and three Russians will join the trial to prepare for future missions to explore Mars.

The main program will last 520 days. Spacecraft launches are expected by the end of 2008 and will be followed by two preliminary tests lasting 14 days and 105 days, through which participants will live entirely on their own. The international astronaut in the 105-day program will be trained at the end of the year. Russia will continue to recruit volunteers for the 520-day program. Volunteers must be between the ages of 25 and 50, graduate from university and speak English fluently. Priority for doctors, biologists, computer engineers.

Participants will exchange information with the control center via email. They will use the same food as on the International Space Station (ISS) and will not smoke or drink alcohol.
