Russia will deliver the most modern nuclear technology to Vietnam

Russia affirmed that nuclear energy is one of the most important areas of cooperation with Vietnam, and will transfer the latest technology to the upcoming Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant project.

The information was informed by Russian ambassador AG Kovtun on December 25 during a year-end meeting with the Vietnamese press.

According to Kovtun, the transfer of the most modern equipment and technology to ensure safety in the operation of Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant, in Phuoc Dinh commune, Thuan Nam district, Ninh Thuan province, is the principle. The two countries have been united.

With the support of Rosatom National Atomic Energy Group, Russian specialized organizations have now reached the end of the preparation of the technical and economic feasibility study for this plant construction project.

In May 2010, Russia was selected as a technology supplier to Ninh Thuan 1 nuclear power plant. This is one of the first two nuclear power plants in Vietnam. The plant has a total capacity of 2,000 MW, will be started in 2014 and start generating electricity in 2020.

Kovtun said Russia would not only support the construction of the first nuclear power plant, but also assist Vietnam in training experts and developing nuclear energy science.

Center for Nuclear Science and Technology in Vietnam, is expected to become one of the leading science centers in Southeast Asia, being implemented by the two countries.

In 2013, Russia also increased the quota of scholarships and a list of universities in Russia training Vietnamese atomic experts.

In April, to strengthen interest in nuclear science, Russia organized a physics Olympiad for Vietnamese students with the participation of more than 600 children. The winners receive the opportunity to study in Russia.

According to Kovtun, promoting cooperation on nuclear energy in particular and cooperation with Vietnam in general is one of the main priorities in Russia's foreign policy in Asia.

Comprehensive partnership between Russia and Vietnam in the past year continued to develop in all areas, from investment, trade, energy, to defense, education, culture .

In the first 10 months of the year, the bilateral trade value of the two countries reached 3.15 billion USD, a slight increase compared to the same period last year (2%). The goal of Vietnam and Russia is to bring trade turnover to 7 billion USD in 2015 and 10 billion USD in 2020.

"I hope the existing positive trends in our relationship will continue to grow and support the two sides," Kovtun said. "This is very important because the development of multifaceted relations between Russia and Vietnam will help the economic and technological progress of the two countries, contributing to strengthening peace and stability in the region.
