The Rossiya expedition ship will follow long tracks of broken ice, starting from the port of Murmansk to the Barents River, then to the Arctic. The melting of ice in the regions around the Arctic has sparked hope for Russia's energy supply.

They insisted that under this vast band of ice reserves gas, oil and minerals. The expedition team will carry scientific equipment, measure the seabed and not forget to bring a Russian flag with a tin bag with messages for future generations.

'The Arctic is ours, and we should prove our presence there,' Chilingarov said on Russian television.
