The world's largest memory chip maker yesterday received an error that had attempted to adjust prices to damage competitors and increase computer costs.

US Judge Phyllis J. Hamilton asked South Korean electronics group and Samsung Semiconductor to compensate $ 300 million. This can be considered as one of the biggest antitrust trials ever.

The trial in San Francisco was the result of a large-scale inspection over the past three years (since 2002), detecting involvement of at least three of the world's largest DRAM memory chip makers today. .

Earlier this year, Hynix Semiconductor Group (Seoul, South Korea) pledged $ 185 million in compensation while rival German company Infineon Technologies AG returned $ 160 million from last year. The fourth chip maker, Micron Technology (USA), has cooperated with prosecutors and may not face penalties.

The court announced that these companies had made agreements, exchanged via e-mail, telephone and many meetings to fix costs for DRAM, memory chips used to store information in computers, printers and many other electronic devices.

Victims of this incident include Dell, Compaq Computer, Apple, Hewlett-Packard, International Business Machines and Gateway. Dell and Apple had to raise PC prices to make up for the deficit while others reduced the amount of memory installed in their systems to balance costs.
