Science has a new butterfly
The group of adventurers at the London Museum of Natural History, England, discovered a completely new butterfly in South America. They are of medium size, coffee-colored wings with eye spots on the wings, and live in remote areas of the northern Andes Mountains.
" The great thing about this discovery is that we never imagined butterflies surviving at such an altitude, " said lead scientist Blanca Huertas. " Obviously when you enter a new area, you will hope to find interesting things, but this completely exceeds our expectations. It means butterflies are able to endure and adapt well. better than we thought . "
There are more than 20,000 known butterfly species, 40% live in South America. Newly discovered butterflies are also not found anywhere else on earth.
