Science has proven: The weaker the psychology, the more likely you are to be bitten by a dog

If you are constantly worried about fear, you are most likely to become a top candidate for a sudden hit.

A new study published in the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health shows that cases in the UK may be more than three times as much as recorded data. And the unexpected reason for this difference is that those who have fearful personality or anxiety will often get bitten more and will not often report their case.

The percentage of men bitten in life is twice that of women.

Carri Westgarth - a researcher at the University of Liverpool's Epidemiology and Public Health Department said: "The only official statistics collected about dog bites in the UK are hospital admissions. there is no need for an emergency room ".

To get a more accurate view of the accidents caused by dogs, Westgarth and her colleagues surveyed nearly 700 people in 385 households in the town of Cheshire. Veterinary students have come home and interviewed Cheshire residents briefly about dog ownership. They then left more detailed questionnaires with people willing to participate in the survey.

Questions ask those who have been bitten by a dog to describe the circumstances of the incident. They must answer information about their age at the time of being bitten, their relationship with the dog and after being bitten they will go to a medical facility. Young people and older have also taken a personality test of 10 items. The test helps researchers categorize people's personality according to Big Five criteria: openness, commitment, openness to new experiences, comfort and emotional stability.

Immediately, the results show that the proportion of Cheshire has exceeded the official figure taken from hospital records. Hospital reports show that the dog bite rate is 740 / 100,000 people, but the survey results show a rate of 1.873 / 100,000 - nearly three times the official number.

The more unstable emotions are, the easier it is for dogs to bite.

In particular, the team discovered many surprises when starting to review people's answers. Firstly, the rate of men biting in life is twice that of women . Secondly, about 44% of cases of bites are in children (under 16 years of age); 55% of the bite caused by the dog that the victim never met.

Westgarth said: 'Most other studies think that most people are bitten by a familiar dog. But clearly, the results of this study show the opposite '.

Most surprising, the researchers found a link between being bitten and those who scored on the lowest mental test. The more unstable emotions are, the easier it is for dogs to bite.

Westgarth said: 'Unfortunately, I have been bitten up to 5 times. Few of my memory is like that. Mostly when I worked in the rescue camp. But sadly, I was also bitten by a dog on my face when I was young. Now it has a scar on the forehead! '.
