The current effective measure is to kill mosquitoes and larvae. However, many people are still subjective and vague in preventing dengue fever.

Only kill mosquitoes in ponds, dirty water

Dr. Tran Dac Phu (Director of Preventive Medicine Department, Ministry of Health) said that people now have confusion between mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever and malaria-causing mosquitoes (living on the streets, dusty beaches) encephalitis (living in buffalo stables, cow sheds). Therefore, they only focus on killing mosquitoes and larvae in the prison areas, dirty water and narrow ditches. This is a mistake in preventing dengue.

Reality: Mosquitoes that transmit dengue fever are called "king mosquitoes" , it only breeds in clean water and right in water tanks, clean water containers in the home such as flower vases, water glasses, even water pipe.

Need to do: Cover clean water tanks, water basins. Remove water from household appliances such as flowerpot on the altar, bowl, cup of water, etc. Don't let mosquitoes have the opportunity to lay eggs in the house or garden by throwing away garbage, butter tubes, cans, clearing the garden clean.

Associate Professor Dr. Tran Nhu Duong, Deputy Director of the National Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology, also emphasized that many people have subjective psychology in killing mosquitoes and larvae. They think that just spraying insecticide can prevent dengue.

Reality: Spraying is only effective for adult mosquitoes that are at risk or are infected with pathogens and how to spray mist rather than spray on the wall like killing malaria so there is no Long-term effect.

The spraying during the epidemic is essential to quickly and quickly kill mosquitoes, preventing timely transmission. The root of the long-term problem is the killing of larvae. If they do not kill larvae, they will hatch into mosquitoes the next day and continue to transmit the virus.

Need to do: People must kill larvae daily, often, continuously. We need to understand that no larvae do not have dengue fever.

Only get dengue once in a lifetime

Many people believe that each person only has dengue once in his life so once he was ill, they were very subjective. Since then, the sense of preventing this disease is not high, they are at risk of getting sick again and affecting many others.

Fact : Dengue fever is an acute infectious disease, which can cause epidemics caused by Dengue virus with 4 different types of diseases. A person with any type of hemorrhagic fever will be immune for the lifetime of the virus, but may still have the second, third and fourth dengue fever with the remaining types.

According to Associate Professor Duong, Vietnam as well as in the world, there have been only 4 circulating viruses circulating D1, D2, D3, D4, no records of genetic changes or a new strain. .

This year, the whole Northern type D1 accounted for over 70%. Hanoi especially appears at the same time with 3 strains, the highest is D1 (nearly 71%), D2, and D4 is recorded. This increases the risk of cases.
