Siberia: Snow is no longer white!
The Russian emergency department said it has sent experts to the Siberian province of Omsk to find out why the snowfall in many areas is yellow and orange.
'A chemical inspection team was sent to Omsk. Their main task is to investigate the situation of pollution in this area and assess the danger of this unusual type of snow, ' an unnamed official from the Russian Emergency Department said, ITAR news agency TASS cited.
The snow has many colors ranging from light yellow to orange and smells of ' mold ' that has been seen in 5 districts of Omsk province, located in western Siberia and borders Kazakhstan. 'Local people are advised not to use this type of snow and to limit travel,' said the official.
The area affected by the snow is on an area of about 1,500 km 2 with more than 27,000 people living. The authorities have collected these snow samples. Omsk is considered the center of the oil industry and the provincial capital is one of Siberia's largest cities.
