Solar Impulse 2 completes the flight around the world

July 26 marks an important milestone for the world aviation industry when two Swiss pilots successfully conducted their first round-the-world solar powered flight with Solar Impulse 2 (SI2).

According to a reporter in Geneva, the Solar Impulse 2 (SI2) plane landed safely at Al-Batten Airport, near the Abu Dhabi capital of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), at 005 minutes ( GMT) on July 26, completing the historic flight around the world.

Solar Impulse 2 started its journey around the world from March 2015 at Al-Batten airport, taking control of two Swiss pilots Andre Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard.

Thus, this flight has lasted 23 days, crossing the road more than 43,000km across 4 continents and 2 oceans without a drop of gasoline.

After the flight, Piccard pilot happily shared "it is a very impressive thing" to be seated on a "no noise and no pollution" plane, which underlines the importance of energy. clean for the world today.

Meanwhile, UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon also expressed deep admiration for this feat of aviation.

Solar Impulse 2 is made of carbon fiber, weighs 2.3 tons, uses 4 17.5 horsepower engines powered by 17,248 solar cells mounted along the fuselage and wingspan of 72m, equivalent to the wingspan of Airbus A380 aircraft.

This is the second solar-powered aircraft, after the Solar Impulse, which completed a 26-hour test flight in 2010, proving that solar cells can store enough energy during the day to use at night.
