Spacecraft captures strange 'evil traces' on another planet

The strange, rippling mounds near the Hooke Crater area in the highlands south of the red planet are caused by dust demons.

Strange images brought back from Exo Mars, the orbiters of ESA (European Space Agency) and Roscosmos (Spanish Space Agency) are operating around Mars. It is a panorama of a chaotic terrain, broken fault, with jumbled rock groups and different shapes, conical mounds, mountain ranges, flat-topped hills.

The most distinctive feature of the terrain are the "devil tracks", which look like dark and soft tassels, appearing in clusters throughout the area.

According to SciTechDaily, these "evil traces" are caused by a phenomenon found on both Mars and Earth: dust demons. It is a phenomenon when the heat generated by the sun's heat on the ground creates warm air flows into the cooler air, forming vertical vortex columns, which are not large but strong and long-lasting.

Scientists used a filter to create a blue-violet tint for the "evil traces", for easy observation. This is not a color you will see with the naked eye

With Mars, a world less volatile by weather phenomena like Earth, the traces carved by dust devils on the ground have been preserved for a long time, clearly.

Scientists also note that the blue-violet color of the "evil traces" is a false color created by the three filters, for better observation. Those are not the actual colors you would see if present on Mars.
