Spending 1 billion USD to build the world's largest CO2 collection room

Mongstad Technology Center, Norway's largest and most advanced carbon dioxide gas collection laboratory, was inaugurated on Monday.

Located at Norway's west coast refinery, the Mongstad Technology Center is used to test methods of 'catching' CO 2 emissions and then burying them underground and preventing them from returning to election. ozone.

'We need to find a solution to reconcile energy demand and the need to reduce CO2 emissions , ' said Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg in the opening ceremony of the center. 'Collecting CO2 is a key technology , ' he added. 'This technology can reduce emissions by 20% until 2050' .

The construction cost of the project is up to 1 billion USD, mainly based on the state budget. Tâm the center is owned by Gassnova, a Norwegian state-owned company, followed by 20% owned by Statoil, another Norwegian company, the rest belongs to the Dutch and African company Sasol.

In fact, the Norwegian Prime Minister hoped that the project would be built in 2007 but due to the large scale and exceeding the cost compared to the estimate, the project could not be completed as planned. Therefore, instead of operating in 2014 as the initial ambition, the laboratory will operate as early as 2020.
