Spider 'peacock'

The male spiders are brightly colored and often raise their hind legs to appeal to their 'mates' found in Australia.

The tiny spider species called Maratus Vilans has a body about 4 mm long. While females are only normal brown, males possess bright colors like orange, yellow, blue and blue that look very beautiful. So they are nicknamed 'peacock spider' or 'rainbow spider'.

Maratus Vilans has 8 legs like regular spiders. Males often raise their brown legs - with colorful feathers - to catch their attention.

Amateur photographer Jurgen Otto has discovered this unusual spider for the first time in nature, but he easily captured their photos at his home in Sydney.

Maratus Vilans Spider is also found in the eastern regions of Australia like Queensland and New South Wales. The body length of the Maratus Vilans is not more than 5mm.
