The mammoth massacre area was found during the construction of the new loop in Austria's Drasenhofen region, bordering the Czech Republic, Fox News reported on September 8. Here, the archaeological group found many ivory and mammoth bones, dating from 18,000 to 28,000 years ago.
"This Paleolithic massacre area is the first site in Austria to be excavated and analyzed using the latest method. The discovery gives us a more realistic view of the life of the ancient people , " Martin Krenn, officer at the Austrian Federal Monument Agency, said.
Researchers also found many tools in the excavation area, providing evidence of human ancestry. The land covers an area of 16 square meters.
In 2013, 40,000-year curly feather mammoths were found on Maly Lyakhovsky island in northern Siberia. The integrity of the corpse combined with the achievements in genetic research that sparked a debate among scholars about whether to clone an extinct creature.
