Storm No. 2 landed in the North East: break dike in Hai Phong

According to Mr. Le Thanh Hai - deputy director of the Central Center for Meteorological and Hydrological Forecasting, the circulation of typhoon No. 2 caused huge heavy rains in provinces from Thanh Hoa to Quang Tri. This rain lasts until June 24 will end.

It is forecasted that in the next 12 hours, tropical depressions will be able to change the direction of travel in the north, about 10km each hour, continue to go deep inland and weaken into a low pressure area. Although typhoon 2 did not cause too strong winds but in the afternoon of June 23 due to the influence of high tide combined with stormy winds, many coastal areas were overrun by dikes. At the dike area in Quat Lam beach, Giao Thuy district, Nam Dinh province, waves hit over the dyke surface, causing landslide of 20m.

Nam Dinh Border Guard dispatched 45 soldiers from Quat Lam Border Guard Station to coordinate with localities to take part in troubleshooting. Many critical dyke areas and embankments in Cat Hai and Do Son are also hit by waves.

Mr. Tran Quang Thong, deputy chief of the Cat Hai District People's Committee, said that in the area near Cat Hai Trieu town is high rise, strong sea waves overtake the dyke, water overflows causing local flooding in the urban area. In order to prevent storm damage, in the morning of June 23, Military Region 3 organized 760 people in Kim Son (Ninh Binh) from the aquaculture areas to avoid safety.

In Quang Ninh, high tide and sea level rise flooded, endangering six households in Thai Hoa and Tan Phong villages, Quan Lan commune and Van Don district. Quan Lan Border Guard Station sent 15 officers and soldiers to coordinate with the locality to organize a dam, flood prevention and relocation of six households to safety.
