Strange baby is born twice

Lynlee Hope, a girl with a dead-end bone tumor from the time she was a fetus had to undergo surgery during her womb.

On the day Margaret Boemer went for an ultrasound scan of a 16-week pregnancy at the time of her third child, she quickly discovered that everything was out of control.

"They saw something on the ultrasound machine. The doctors came and told us that something serious was happening to our children. They thought my child had a block. Coccyx sarcoma, " Boemer said. "And that's really shocking. We don't know what the disease is and the consequences it will bring."

Coccyx is a tumor that develops before birth and they grow in the coccyx of the baby, which is at the end of the spine, near the anus.

"This is the most common tumor that babies often have. Although this is the most common disease, its occurrence rate is still very rare," said Dr. Darrell Cass, director. Texas Medical Center said.

Coccyx tumors are more common in girls than boys and occur at a rate of 1 / 35,000 births. The disease is not the only bad news for young Boemer. Actually, she was pregnant with twins. However, she lost a child before the start of her second pregnancy.

"Some tumors may be quite benign. So the fetus can stay stable until the time of birth and we can perform a lumpectomy after they are born , " Cass said. "However, it will cause many blood circulation problems in your body."

Cass explained that tumors will try to grow by sucking blood from their bodies. But they are also in the development stage. The result is that both become competitors."If you don't win the tumor expansion, you will die , " Cass said.

After considering the progress of the disease, doctors realized that the tumor in Boemer's baby's body was increasingly absorbing more blood and nutrients, making the fetus become weaker.

Although some doctors advised Boemer to terminate the pregnancy, Cass and his team came up with another rather daring proposition, the fetal surgery . This is a very difficult method and the survival rate is also quite bleak.

"My child has no other choice. At 23 weeks of age, the baby's heart-implant tumor made him have heart failure right from his mother's womb. I know that my child will not be able to wait. Therefore, fetal surgery is the only option at the time, " said Dr. Darrell Cass, director of the Texas Medical Center.

During the operation, Boemer was pregnant 23 weeks 5 days. By this time, the tumor was even larger than the fetus.

Cass and Dr. Oluyinka Olutoye, their collaborators, performed the surgery together for 5 consecutive hours."It took us a long time to open the uterus. Because I and my colleagues wanted to keep the mother's health first , " Cass said.

After the uterus is removed, all of the amniotic fluid is removed. The fetus at that time seemed to be hanging in the air. Doctors will surgically remove most of the tumor and then place the fetus back in the uterus and stitch it.

Despite the pain of being pregnant and suffering from surgery, Boemer gave birth to a baby at 36 weeks. This girl is named Lynlee Hope.

The baby was immediately transferred to the special care glass cage. And only after 8 days, Hope had to undergo another operation to remove all the remaining tumor to be able to live completely healthy.
