The recommendation was made by the World Health Organization (WHO) on January 14, after Thailand discovered the first patient with pneumonia from infectious disease in Wuhan City, China. The 61-year-old female patient is on isolation treatment. Thai Deputy Prime Minister and Public Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the patient showed signs of improved health, good sleep and no fever.

During a press conference in Geneva, Dr. Maria Van Kerkhove, WHO representative said that pneumonia has the ability to "spread limited" , among family members. WHO has prepared emergency response plans, and has issued official disease control guidelines for hospitals around the world.

This is the first time that WHO has confirmed that pneumonia caused by a strange virus strain in China is capable of being transmitted from person to person.

Maria Van Kerkhove said there is currently no specific treatment for this new strain of the virus. However, WHO is considering reusing existing antiviral drugs.

The agency called on the governments of countries, especially Thailand, the public as well as tourists to raise their awareness and be subjective in the face of pneumonia.

China recorded 59 patients with acute pneumonia, of whom 41 live in Wuhan and all trade in the Huanan seafood market. One patient has died, 7 others are in critical condition. Up to now, no new cases have been recorded.

On January 9, the scientists identified the corona pneumonia virus but the strain was unknown. Coronavirus is found in animals such as birds, mice, poultry and rodents, causing infectious diseases, including SARS and MERS.
