Successful treatment of epilepsy with gamma knives

For the first time in Vietnam, the team of doctors of the University Hospital of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hue University successfully treated gamma-jaw epilepsy in combination with anti-epileptic drugs (Depakine).

The patient successfully treated is a girl. From the age of 2, this child has suffered from epilepsy because of excess tumor of the spherical mass of about 25mm diameter. The patient was treated with antiepileptic drugs but was uncontrolled and still had seizures every day.

Five 3-year-old patients appear epilepsy who laugh uncontrollably, averaging 3 to 4 episodes per week. At 6 years of age, the patient had a personality disorder and was taken to the Gamma Knife Center Hospital University of Medicine and Pharmacy - Hue University for treatment.

The patient was treated with a gamma knife on July 21, 2009. In the first 6 months of treatment, the patient has not had any clinical changes. After the next 7 months, the number of seizures in children decreases gradually from 1 to 2 episodes per month in mild levels and no longer full-body spasms.

Until now, children have not had any seizures in the past few months, going to school normally, no longer manifesting personality disorders, without endocrine and neurological complications. And it is important that tissue tumors have not changed in size and become necrotic due to radiation therapy.

From this success, it can be considered to treat epilepsy patients due to another gamma tumor.
