International experts have been researching a giant sunshade placed in space to help combat global climate change.
In fact, this giant sunshade idea has been discussed for years, but recently the Planetary Sunshade Foundation released an article supporting the initiative, as well as highlighting its practicality.
The Planetary Sunshade Foundation believes that a sunshade for the Earth may be the best solution to manage solar radiation . It should also be seen as an important part of the global effort to combat the complex climate change that is taking place on Earth.

In fact, addressing the worst impacts of climate change can be based on three main pillars: Reducing emissions, removing carbon dioxide, and managing solar radiation. Morgan Goodwin, CEO of the Planetary Sunshade Foundation, said that current decarbonization strategies are necessary, but they are not enough to create a sustainable, safe, and livable planet.
Morgan Goodwin added: ' Decarbonisation is the process of reducing carbon dioxide emissions, by using low-carbon energy sources. To avoid the worst impacts of climate change, the world must rapidly phase out fossil fuels, remove billions of tonnes of carbon from the atmosphere, and, crucially, limit the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth '.
According to him, among all the methods being studied to reduce solar radiation, the giant sunshade has many advantages worth investing in. Advertised as a "super structure" in space, the giant sunshade will be installed at the Sun-Earth L1 Point (also an ideal point for observing the Sun). When placed in the right position, it can reduce the amount of solar radiation, keeping heat in the Earth's atmosphere by reflecting solar radiation back into space.
One objection to this initiative is that: ' We shouldn't be messing with Mother Nature!'. Goodwin responds to this, by pointing out that humans are messing with Mother Nature on a massive scale, through industrial activities. He also says: ' Our survival as a civilisation depends on our ability to wisely, deliberately change the way we interact with our planet'.
