According to Wei, many panda fossils, dating from 10,000 years to 1 million years, have been unearthed in central China, where ancient people once lived. The number of raccoon fossils abundantly indicates that bear populations have fallen sharply due to human killing.

Of course, the ancient people would not kill these animals if they were useless to them. They killed bears that could be eaten. But the pandas of that time were not as big as pandas now in China.

They are much smaller than today's giant pandas and are about the size of a Tibetan Clam dog. Even so, it is still considered the direct ancestor of giant pandas in China. Due to climate change, bear food is mainly reduced bamboo, so this bear has become extinct.
